A few months ago I did Brice + Cecilia’s first engagement session in winter, but we knew we wanted an opportunity to shoot again to capture the spirit of Brice’s culture, since his family will be traveling all the way from Rwanda for their wedding in Yakima.
We wanted to choose a location that would give us a proper feel, so we decided on a trail that we knew had rolling hills and canyons – while it’s not nearly green enough to compare to Rwanda, we still felt it was a beautiful and appropriate place for their cultural portraits. Plus, the weather was absolutely perfect for our shoot! When we first arrived to the location the lighting was soft and beautiful, which paired gorgeously with their first choice of wardrobe, and then for the second half of our shoot, the sun came out and made everything dramatic and super vibrant.
All of the traditional attire that they were wearing was sent from Africa by Brice’s mother, and I fell in love with every single piece. Each was elegant and colorful, and I just imagine an incredibly festive place that would don this fashion. Also, at the very end of the session I made these two show me some traditional Rwandan dances – I loved it! Now I’m just crossing my fingers that they put together a routine for their wedding reception this August! Love you both!
